// These lines puts the reader inside the body of a young person with “Resignation Syndrome” or “Uppgivenhetssyndrom” in Swedish. It appears to be a culture-bound syndrome within the asylum seeking communities in Sweden, a very specialized response to the trauma of refugee limbo.
In severe cases children become not just depressed but motion-, speech- and hopeless as a reaction to stresses of the lengthy legal process. In the worst cases, children reject any food or water and have to be fed by a feeding tube. It’s said that recovery is dependent on the restoration of hope in safety for their families. //
